Synopsis

Rosa Balistreri, the storyteller from Licata, described as a Sicilian Amalia Rodriguez, is the singer who, in the period between 1970s and 1990s, told the story of Sicily with uncommon passion and human energy. In a theatre, the actress Donatella Finocchiaro is preparing a recital on Rosa’s life and music. The story is divided into different parts: the onstage performance with Donatella Finocchiaro, the stories of those who knew Rosa, documents, pictures, interviews, concerts, songs, television appearances, they all weave the absorbing story of her difficult life. Her miserable childhood, a forced wedding, violence, mistreatments as well as her powerful, intense singing made her become the storyteller of Sicily. Musical moments by Donatella alternate with interviews with Dario Fo, Giovanna Marini, Lucilla Galeazzi, Alfio Antico…
