Architect, Designer, Sculptor. Three labels in strict alphabetical order, three facets of a single designer: Angelo Mangiarotti. Certainly one of the most multifaceted and, in some ways, “asymmetric” figures on the Italian scene, a proponent of transversal research between disciplines, almost a “lone fighter” with respect to the evolution of the dominant schools of thought in post-war Italy.
The documentary film aims to investigate the figure of Angelo Mangiarotti in the context of twentieth-century Italian design culture with particular attention to his attitude and sensitivity towards matter and materials. The shots of his architecture and the interviews with his collaborators, clients and friends delve into points of contact and resonances between the various disciplines in which he worked, trying to reconstruct the depth of his thought, the marked tension towards innovation and the intrinsic poetry of his creations.
