Why and how did Alessandro Mendini make Proust's armchair?
From the mid-1970s, Mendini began to think about a "Proust fabric," a fabric arising from the literary and pictorial inspirations of the French novelist.
In 1978, Proust's first armchair was created; an object, as Mendini said, that "is not craftsmanship, it is not design, it is not painting, it is not sculpture, but it is the negation of all these things."
