Synopsis
This unusual relationship between the director of “cinema of reality” and the internationally well-known artist represents an important moment for Daniele Segre's artistic growth. These two artists first connected at the press conference at Prix Italia in September 2012; the relation got stronger during the filming of this portrait documentary in December 2012 at Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella, when they found common ground in their approach to social involvement.
During the Nineties, through Progetto Arte (Art Project) and the creation of Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto and the University of Ideas in Biella, Michelangelo Pistoletto created a straight and active link between different social fields aiming to achieve a responsible transformation of the society. In 2003 he was awarded In 2003 he was awarded the Leone d’Oro, or Golden Lion award, for his career at the Venice Biennale. In 2004 the University of Turin awarded him with a honoris causa degree in political sciences. On this occasion he unveiled the most recent phase of his work, which he called Terzo Paradiso (Third Paradise). In 2012 he promoted Rebirth-day, the first day of universal rebirth, an initiative that organized over a hundred events across the world on December 21. In 2013, from April to September, the Louvre in Paris showcased a retrospective of the artist: Michelangelo Pistoletto, année un-le paradis sur terre. (“Year One, Paradise on Earth”).
