Synopsis
Gae Aulenti as few have known her, open to confidences and personal recollections, portrayed through a rare interview-profile from the late 1990s and enriched with new contributions made today. In Gae’s own words, as well as those of the people who knew her, loved her, or studied her work, emerges an extraordinary journey of a life lived with intensity and irony. Alongside her major professional achievements, she always carried with her charisma, curiosity, and a vast culture, born of an uncommon passion for books and travel.
From childhood holidays in the South, to her youth in Biella marked by school, war, and small acts of resistance; her arrival at the Polytechnic in a Milan reduced to rubble, and the beginning of a career pursued through sheer will and talent in a world dominated by men. Then came the great architectural works such as the Musée d'Orsay, the theatre collaborations with Luca Ronconi, her design legacy — but also her relationships with the men in her life, and her deep family affections.
Setting aside her legendary reserve, Gae reveals to us a version of herself that is even more non-conformist, engaging, and full of charm.
